"Delta Epsilon Delta" was chartered in 1950 at Coral Gables High School with Mahlon Rudy the first President. After the Florida Legislature passed legislation banning Greek letter organizations in the High Schools, the various clubs became legitimate by taking on an English worded designation. In 1955 Tony Mantinan (class of '55) established the name "Counts" and Delta Epsilon Delta became known as "Counts" from that day forward. A few years later the Florida Legislature passed legislation banning all High School Fraternities. Counts was known for having great parties and for never losing an inter-fraternity football game in its history.
